How to sell on Trunk without losing your mind (or your weekend)

Snap it, sell it, send it – and just like that, it’s out of your life (and into your bank account).

We’ve all been there. Staring at a wardrobe that’s part fashion archive, part identity crisis. Maternity jeans from two kids ago. That one dress you swore you’d wear on “the next date night” – if only you ever left the house after 6pm. The boyfriend jeans that fit like they’re clinging on for dear life. The baby clothes your kid outgrew yesterday.

You think: Maybe I should sell some of this?

Then, your brain spirals – do I need a fancy camera? Or a proper light? Will this take up my entire weekend? Is this one more thing I’ll start and abandon, like sourdough?

Breathe. Trunk’s not like that.

We’ve built an easy-to-use sustainable fashion marketplace that helps you buy and sell pre-loved clothing in Australia – without the overwhelm. Here’s how to clear space, earn cash, and feel good doing it.

Sort the good stuff

If it’s clean, in good nick, and deserves another spin – it’s probably Trunk-worthy. Designer brands are welcome, but not essential. We’re here for real wardrobes and quality pre-owned clothing – think pre-loved women’s clothing, everyday heroes, and pre-loved kids clothes with plenty of wear left in them. Bundles work brilliantly, especially for seasonal items or growing kids. And if something’s seen better days? Recycle the fabric responsibly.

Snap it

Real talk: photos sell. A blurry shot on a crumpled doona? Not ideal. But hang that dress up, get some good natural light, and suddenly it’s looking like it belongs on the rack at Aje. Use your phone – iPhones are more than fine – and snap the front, back, any labels, tags or interesting details. Get more tips on taking photos that sell.

Before you upload, give your pics a little zhuzh: adjust the contrast so the colours pop and brighten things just enough to do the item justice (not full Valencia filter, just a nudge). Better photos = faster sales, fewer questions, and more love for your listing.

List it

Think of your listing as a little love letter to the item – and a nudge to help someone else fall for it. The more info you share, the faster it’ll sell (and the fewer “what size is this?” DMs over the weekend).

Start with the condition – is it brand new with tags? Worn once to a best friend’s wedding? Next up, size and fit – include what’s on the label, and for bonus points, include some measurements too (your measuring tape finally gets its moment). Highlight anything worth knowing – the puff sleeves, the 100 per cent silk lining, the fact it has actual pockets.

And if there’s a tiny flaw, note it. When in doubt, ask yourself: If I were buying this online, what would I want to know? Now add that in. The more honest and detailed your listing, the more likely your quality pre-owned clothing will sell quickly on Trunk Style.

Before you hit publish, select your delivery method – whether it’s post, local pick-up, or both. Giving buyers options can help your quality pre-owned clothing on Trunk Style find a new home faster.  Get more tips on nailing your descriptions.

Price it right

You want your item to feel like a find – but not a splurge. Have a quick peek at similar listings on Trunk marketplace to see what’s fair, then price yours in that sweet spot where it says ‘bargain’ but also ‘I know what this is worth.’ Get more tips on setting your prices.

Reply like a legend

If someone slides into your DMs (ok, your listing chat), don’t leave them hanging. A quick reply shows you’re legit, makes the buyer feel confident, and can be the difference between a sale and a scroll-on-by. Plus, it’s just good Trunk etiquette.

Print, stick, post

Once your item sells, you’ve got two options: post it or offer local pick-up.

If it’s going in the post, Trunk has everything worked out – and the buyer always covers the shipping cost, which is automatically calculated at checkout. You’ll automatically receive a prepaid shipping label via email. Just print it, stick it on your parcel, and drop it at any Australia Post box or branch. It’s fully trackable, and once it’s marked as delivered, your payment is released straight into your Trunk wallet.

Prefer to keep things local? If you’ve enabled pick-up, you and the buyer can use Trunk’s messaging system to arrange a time and place that works. Once the item’s handed over and the buyer confirms, you’ll get paid. Easy either way. Learn more about shipping and pick up.

Get paid and repeat as needed

Once you start selling clothes online, you’ll want to keep going. There’s something wildly satisfying about sorting through your stuff, letting go of what no longer fits your body or your life, and sending it off to someone who’ll actually wear it. It might even spark joy. (Shoutout to Marie Kondo.)

Buying and selling pre-loved on Trunk helps keep clothing in circulation, reduces landfill, and gives your fashion footprint a gentler tread.

So go on. Open your wardrobe, grab your phone, and give your quality pre-owned clothing a second chance. Your future self – heck, even the planet – will thank you.
